Arizona State defensive coordinator Phil Bennett will leave the program after coaching against NC State in the Hyundai Sun Bowl later this month.
“I will always be a Sun Devil fan,” Bennett told reporters Tuesday. “I will pull for these kids and this program. I think it’s in good hands. Just very appreciative to all of them.”
He had a lot of leverage. In 2013, in addition to winning the national championship in men’s basketball, Louisville beat No. 3 Florida in the Sugar Bowl and made the finals in baseball and women’s hoops. Jurich commissioned a $185,000 documentary, Year of the Cardinal, which aired on ESPNU.
The Adidas deal quadrupled the company’s commitment to Louisville in cash and gear and was a huge bet on Jurich’s vision. The average annual compensation of the 10-year contract was exceeded only by Under Armour’s deal with UCLA ($18.7 million) and Nike’s deals with Ohio State ($16.8 million) and Texas ($16.7 million) — universities with at least twice Louisville’s enrollment.
“I was looking forward to no games,” Crabtree said. “But there is nothing I can do about that.”
Crabtree and Talib still have time to appeal their suspensions. If they stand, which is likely, Crabtree will be out against the Giants and Talib will miss the team’s game against the Dolphins.
This season, at the end of each positional section, there is a subgrouping of players, “Players off game-status injury report.” The probable tag no longer exists, so players who would have been listed as probable in previous seasons are now simply removed from the report.
“Without getting philosophical, and I’m not sitting here with a crystal ball or projecting things like that, that’s not how I roll,” Reid said, via Arrowhead Pride. “We’ve all got a responsibility to do our job at all positions, starting with me, and that’s not getting done the right way. Right? It’s not one guy, and that has to be understood. It’s not one person.
