The Browns will have a record amount of cap space due to having a roster filled with low-cost players and a massive $50 million in cap room from 2016 they will carry over. What they will do with all this room is anyone’s guess.
They have receiver Terrelle Pryor and linebacker Jamie Collins as two higher-level free agents, and it’s possible they will frontload those contracts to absorb large cap charges in 2017 and 2018. They also will use about $10 million of their cap room to sign rookies, but even after all those moves, they should conservatively have around $70 million in space.
The Browns can outbid anyone in free agency, and they have more holes than any team in the NFL. But it would not be surprising to see them sit on a large amount of that space.
