Le’Veon Bell appears to sarcastically congratulate Steelers GM Kevin Colbert

Le’Veon Bell has been training in Florida all preaseason due to a holdout. He hasn’t been with the team during training camp, or their preseason games, because he wanted a long-term contract with the Steelers.

Instead, the running back said he’ll report to the team this week, where he’s expected to sign his $12.1 million franchise tender. The money is less than he would have hoped to make, and his holdout had to lead to some frustrations with the front office.

Minnesota opted against picking up Peterson’s $18 million contract option in February, and the future Hall of Fame running back chose the Saints as his next team.

Peterson managed just 72 yards off of 37 carries last year before his season ended with yet another serious knee injury. Now healthy, the 32-year-old back will be reduced to a back-up role behind Mark Ingram, but he is still expected to get a plentiful amount of touches.

To Zimmer, this game may not be about Peterson, but Vikings fans likely had this game circled on their calenders ever since he signed with the Saints.

How long Hurney sticks this time is known only by reclusive Panthers owner Jerry Richardson. Hurney, 61, said the current plan is for him to handle GM duties for the length of the 2017 season, then “help target and possibly develop the next general manager down the road.” If he wanted to keep Hurney on a full-time basis, Richardson would have to open the position for an interview with at least one minority candidate under the NFL’s Rooney Rule requirement.

Asked why more GMs don’t get second chances, Hurney said, “I can’t answer that question. I mean, I’m still pinching myself surprised that I’m back here.”nike_steelers_3602
