NBA trade rumors: Knicks’ Phil Jackson open to dealing Kristaps Porzingis as interest grows

Kristaps Porzingis made clear how he felt about the Knicks’ dysfunction when he skipped out on his post-season exit interview in April, and the rift apparently isn’t getting better.

According to The Vertical, Knicks president Phil Jackson isn’t ruling out trading the 7-3 star, who is reportedly upset with the way the franchise has been run, especially with Carmelo Anthony trade rumors floating through the organization.

The Cavs were the second seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs as a late-season swoon allowed the Celtics to grab the top seed. Before the Cavaliers closed out the Celtics in five games in the conference finals, Lue said the Celtics were more difficult to defend than the Warriors.

He was singing a different tune Thursday after Durant scored 38 points to lead the Warriors to a 113-91 victory in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

“They’re the best I’ve ever seen,” Lue responded when asked how good the Warriors are. “No other team has done this. 13-0. They constantly break records every year.”

The Warriors, who set an NBA regular-season record for wins last season, had the NBA’s best record this season and have yet to lose in 13 games this postseason. No team had ever won 12 straight games during a single postseason. Golden State’s 13 straight playoff wins ties the NBA mark set by the Lakers over the 1988 and 1989 postseasons and the Cavaliers over the last two seasons.

Golden State will look to set the all-time mark Sunday when the Finals continue with Game 2.

Rift between Knicks, Kristaps Porzingis widens with reported firing of his favorite assistant

Limited Derek Rivers Jersey The Knicks are not renewing the contract of assistant coach Josh Longstaff, a decision that won’t help mend the team’s relationship with star forward Kristaps Porzingis, the New York Daily News reported.

Porzingis has a close relationship with Longstaff, who traveled to Latvia to train Porzingis last season. Porzingis even requested that Longstaff serve as an assistant on the Latvian national team during this summer’s European championships.

[Thompson] scored the same amount of points as me and Shaq. And had three whole rebounds, Barkley stated. Let me tell you something, I’m a fat old dude. If they put me in a NBA game right now for 20 minutes, I could get three rebounds.

Could the 54-year-old Barkley really get three rebounds? He earned the nickname The Round Mound of Rebound during his playing days, but it’s hard to imagine him actually going out and doing that now. But that’s besides the point.

Barkley was just bringing home the point that Thompson has been awful. Stephen Curry had more rebounds in Game 3 (13) than Thompson has in the entire series (11).

The Cavs gave Thompson a large contract before last season, and appeared to be worth it at the time. But he’s not living up to expectations in this series, and his performance may have the Cavs thinking about what they want to do with the cap space he’s currently taking up.

LaVar Ball in attendance for Lonzo Ball’s second workout with Lakers, report says

While it’s virtually impossible to glean anything from Lonzo Ball’s second workout with the Lakers Friday, there are certainly several reports that were very telling.

According to Ball’s workout was a private event near his home where only Magic Johnson and general manager Rob Pelinka were present from the Lakers. However, LaVar Ball was also in attendance.

The Lakers announced Monday the hiring of Peterson as director of strength and endurance training. A 28-year veteran of the fitness industry, Peterson will design and implement a strength and conditioning program for the team.

Darrelle Revis Mens Jersey From his time in college at Duke University until now, Gunnar has pursued excellence in training and fitness,Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said in a release. Gunnar is a true pioneer and visionary at his craft, and will bring a new mentality to our weight room which we are all very excited about.

Since Magic (Johnson) and I have worked with Gunnar in the past, we have a strong relationship with him, which makes working together now feel seamless.

Peterson has worked with professional athletes in the past including Pete Sampras, who gave Peterson a personally signed racquet saying Thanks for extending my career after he won the U.S. Open in 2002.

Most teams are running four and five out on offense. If Howard can’t adapt and guard 3-point threats, the Hawks will spend another season as one of the worst teams defending behind the arc. That doesn’t bode well in a league where every team is shooting more from deep. And if Howard can’t move on offense, it slows the Hawks down in a time when everyone is moving fast. How the Hawks deal with Howard could have a major impact on free-agent signings.

None of this is to take away from those who deservedly won those MVP awards Miguel Tejada in 2002

Thome, a five-time All-Star, never won an MVP, despite putting up a lot of MVP-type numbers.

When he moved on to the Phillies in 2003 and clubbed 47 home runs to lead the National League, he finished fourth in MVP voting, as names like Barry Bonds and Pujols dominated the discussions of greatness. A year earlier, when he hit 52 home runs, slugged a league-leading .677, led the league in walks and carried a .445 on-base percentage for the Indians, he finished seventh SEVENTH in MVP voting.

None of this is to take away from those who deservedly won those MVP awards Miguel Tejada in 2002, Bonds in 2003 but only to say that Thome always seemed to play in the shadows of others, making his contributions, as massive as they were, somehow take a back seat in the minds of fans who didn’t follow him on a daily basis. But let’s review just how good a hitter he was.

His 612 home runs rank, for now, as seventh-best of all time. Think about that. That’s more homers than every (current) Hall of Famer except Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and Ken Griffey Jr.

But interviews that lead to nothing but a lot of frequent flyer miles smack of tokenism, and of the perception that theyre only being granted for show.

A Bleacher Report story Wednesday hinted at that same concern: that despite prominent and well-publicized candidates, a shutout not only in coaching but general manager hires is possible, because owners have reason to play it safe. That, in turn, recalls ESPNs detailed report from last summer about how minority hiring has stalled in recent years, pushing the NFL to adjust it’s approach.

Exaggeration, you say Overly sensitive The debacle of the 2013 offseason is still fresh in everybodys memories. Eight head-coaching jobs and seven general manager jobs were filled, all by white men.

Vikings RB Adrian Peterson lists potential landing spots

If you don’t play for the Patriots, Steelers, Cowboys or Falcons, your offseason has already begun.

Tis the season for current high-NFL players to make appearances on ESPN’s roster of morning shows. Thursday, it was future Hall-of-Famer Adrian Peterson’s turn. Amid a week that included spots by Giants safety Landon Collins and Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon, All Day made the biggest splash from a news perspective, providing a short list of potential destinations if the Vikings cut him.

Peterson, the NFL’s 16th all-time leading rusher, has spent his entire nine-year career in Minnesota but could be a salary cap casualty, moving forward. However, after playing in just three games due to torn meniscus, the soon-to-be 32-year-old recognizes he could part ways with the purple and gold.

Elite Womens Alex Lewis Jersey There are a couple of teams out there that I’ve thought about, Peterson said on First Take. New York is one of them that popped up, Tampa Bay. Houston would be a good spot… I’ll just stop there.

Teryl Austin, Lions defensive coordinator: Detroit offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter might not be ready for a coaching job, but Austin is overdue for his chance. His work has been key in helping Detroit get to the playoffs in two of the last three seasons despite personnel limited on star power. He’s a good schemer and motivator, perfect to put with Bosa.

John Pagano, Chargers defensive coordinator: Pagano has done a terrific job turning around the defense as the team has stockpiled some good, young talent on that side of the ball over the past several drafts with GM Tom Telesco. While his brother Chuck is on shaky ground with the Colts, John keeps building his resume as a candidate. San Diego can’t ignore the potential of an in-house promotion.

Cardinals GM John Mozeliak speaks sternly, promises big changes if team doesn’t improve

For about an hour Friday afternoon, Cardinals fans across the country were waiting, with bated breath, for the start of a surprise press conference — announced around 1 p.m. CT and scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. — called by the club.

So when Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak walked up to the podium in Busch Stadium’s media room a couple of minutes after 2, his first words seemed almost like an unintentional tease.

“Everybody ready ” he said.

He was, of course, talking to the assembled media, as a courtesy to make sure cameras were rolling and recorders were turned on.

Authentic Youth Jake Allen Jersey But you could almost hear Cardinals fans screaming “YES! NO! YES! NO! I DON’T KNOW!” from every corner of radio station KMOX’s legendary broadcast range.

Second, I think Cowher’s comments Sunday take him, finally, out of the running for potential NFL head coaching jobs.

Until Jon Gruden of ESPN’s Monday Night Football became the retired coach that everybody wanted to hire, 59-year old Cowher was that guy. Instead, Cowher spoke movingly Sunday about the physical and emotional toll suffered by NFL head coaches.

Authentic Youth Anthony Steen Jersey Sure, you get the glory, the millions, the power. But four NFL coaches were hospitalized this season alone: Todd Bowles of the Jets; Gary Kubiak of the Broncos; Mike Zimmer of the Vikings; and Bruce Ariens of the Cardinals. Kubiak is probably done with coaching after winning the Super Bowl last year. Ariens suffered chest pains. There’s rumors he’s ready to pack it in too.

Masahiro Tanaka shouldn’t get translator on mound visits, Red Sox analyst Jerry Remy says

So, to sum up Tuesday in MLB: If you can’t speak English, then apparently old-school baseball has a problem with you.

That was one conclusion after, first Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt questioned whether the Phillies could build around Odubel Herrera because of a language barrier, and then later Red Sox analyst Jerry Remy said that Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka shouldn’t be allowed a translator during mound visits.

Schmidt apologized. Remy — given the opportunity to walk back his comment by play-by-play man Dave O’Brien — said Tanaka should learn baseball language.

The information available now about the danger of concussions affirmed their decision. When Scott played, they called concussions stingers, and Scott had plenty of them. He told Nicole that they’d just give him oxygen and shots of I don’t know what and put him back on the field. He wasn’t going to let his son deal with that, having to prove his toughness by playing football.

That’s not a decision Jordon ever questioned or regretted.

He just knew that you’re always on the verge of getting injured. You’re always a couple plays away from something twisting the wrong way, and now it’s the concussion thing, where guys were getting beaten up so bad they can’t even think straight, Jordon says. His whole thing was, ‘I don’t want you to experience that.’ Even today, my dad’s fine now but he can still feel the bumps and bruises from back in 1987 when he played. His whole thing was longevity. If you can find something that you love to do and you don’t have to bang helmets all day or worry about somebody trying to rip your face off, then you need to run with it. And I have.

I think the communication between the player and the coach is big

Despite being named MVP of Super Bowl 51, Brady told King it wasn’t his best game ever. Via King:

There are so many things that played into that game—a high-scoring offense, a top-ranked defense, the long Super Bowl, four-and-a-half-hour game, the way that the game unfolded in the first half versus what happened in the second half … so it was just a great game.”

It was an interesting, honest look inside the mind of Brady — the ultimate perfectionist still kicking himself over a pick six while Patriots Nation is still celebrating its fifth Super Bowl title. It was widely picked up by various media outlets.

But then Bleacher Report tweeted Brady’s quote Monday, and there was no mention of King or MMQB. That set King off.

“I think the communication between the player and the coach is big,” Peete added. “In order to have a successful running game, it’s a combination of everyone. It’s not just, ‘well the line didn’t block good,’ it wasn’t like ‘the runner didn’t run good — it’s a combination of both. I think everybody has to be cohesive and be on the same page.”

McVay, who celebrated his 31st birthday on Jan. 24 and is the youngest head coach in NFL history, echoed the sentiment of getting everyone “on the same page.”

“What you see in Todd is a special player,” McVay said. “He’s got great gifts as far as just a talented runner with natural instincts, ability when he gets to the second level to make people miss kind of seamlessly. We’re looking to get him to be that player consistently week in and week out.

“From what I’ve seen so far, really excited about the opportunity to work with him. We feel confident that he’ll get going and be special back for a long time in this league.”texans_110

They have receiver Terrelle Pryor and linebacker Jamie Collins as two higher-level free agents

The Browns will have a record amount of cap space due to having a roster filled with low-cost players and a massive $50 million in cap room from 2016 they will carry over. What they will do with all this room is anyone’s guess.

They have receiver Terrelle Pryor and linebacker Jamie Collins as two higher-level free agents, and it’s possible they will frontload those contracts to absorb large cap charges in 2017 and 2018. They also will use about $10 million of their cap room to sign rookies, but even after all those moves, they should conservatively have around $70 million in space.

The Browns can outbid anyone in free agency, and they have more holes than any team in the NFL. But it would not be surprising to see them sit on a large amount of that space.

Doritos ends 10-year Super Bowl run, so munch on these 10 funniest commercials

Sorry, folks, there will be no crashing the Super Bowl in 2017. Doritos — like the Cleveland Browns — will sit this one out.

You may have missed the news from the mega-conglomerate snack food industry (via Advertising Age): Doritos, part of PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay division, will end its streak of advertising in the Super Bowl that dates to 2007.

Corey Brewer Kids Jersey But when the 49ers hired John Lynch as their GM, it was a total surprise — because he wasn’t even rumored as a candidate. His decision seemed to come out of nowhere, and it turns out, that was the plan all along.

Limited Womens Christopher Tanev Jersey I made a big deal that this stayed quiet, Lynch said Wednesday on KNBR radio in San Francisco. First of all, you know what I was doing? Part of the rumors are things fly out of that building. So I wanted to see could I trust this building, you know? And so that was part of my thinking.

Lynch noted the organization had a reputation for leaking information, so he tested the franchise to keep this a secret until it was time to announce. It’s pretty safe to say San Francisco passed with flying colors.

Hurns was undrafted and Patriots receiver Julian Edelman was overlooked until New England took a flier on the former Kent State quarterback in the seventh round of the 2009 draft.

Does he have great long speed? No, but he’s catching 100 passes a year from, obviously, a great quarterback, Sullivan said of Tom Brady’s favorite target. He does a lot of things that are not measurable. He’s quick; he’s sudden; he anticipates; smart. Those are all things that enable you to be a better player.
